More goodness from Ommegang

I discovered through the Beer Advocate Forums that Ommegang is releasing a new beer.

It’s called “Chocolate Indulgence,” and it’s a light lager.

I’m Kidding. Chocolate Indulgence, according to Ommegang, “comes with a thick tan head of foam resting on top of the rich onyx-colored liquid. The aroma immediately speaks of dark chocolate and dark malts. The gentle herbal nose of Perle hops compliments the darker notes, making the beer savory to the senses.”

Sounds fantastic, and that’s without even considering the flavor. Being a pioneer of Belgian-style beers in the USA, Ommegang has the know-how and inventive spirit to create some fantastic, unique beers. Betcha this one’s gonna shine.

  1. Whee! And I discovered recently that the Perinton Wegmans has some decidedly savory beers *inside* the cooler (not just 36-packs of Coors Lite). They have a decent enough selection in the cases you can see, but they have Victory Storm King Stout (at $11 / 6-pack; ouch, but I still buy it), and a small rack with the Ommegang bottle-style pictured above. (Is it still a “Forty” when it’s not crap?) I’ll be watching for it… especially since Brooklyn Chocolate Stout is one of my favorites. Mmmmm, winter beers.

  2. I think the reader above makes a good point about the price of Ommegang (or is it all Belgian style?) beer. I think it must be very good, but it’s expensive. Brewery Allagash in Maine does the four- bottle pack. I think Ommegang does this too. It’s annoying.

  3. Around here Ommegang isn’t expensive at all. Less than $10 for a 750ml bottle (like the one pictured) of either Hennepin, the Abbey, or 3 Phils.

I, too, am looking forward to the Chocolate Stout.

  4. Ommegang does indeed produce some very impressive brews (Three Philosophers anyone?). One of the least mentioned is their wonderful Witt. Easily for the Beer Doctor, one of America’s best wheat beers.
